Pre-transition trans girls experience male privilege in the same way that closeted gay kids experience heterosexual privilege.

it’s true. it sucks, but it’s true. as a pre-transition trans girl, i acknowledge and despise this; i despise that there’s even such a thing as male privelage. pre-transition sisters, don’t whine about it. as long as the outside world sees us as guys they will treat us like guys.

on the other hand, once transition starts, when presenting as female, and not passing, our privelage mostly (not entirely) disappears. we are seen no longer as men but as something that is wrongly abhorred in our society: men who want to be like women. because in our society women are “inferior” to men and to wish for that is considered shameful and disgusting. keep in mind though that this is only when we presenting as women. and once we pass, the last of our privelage is gone.

Here’s the thing - cis gays typically will not admit or even think about having had hetero privilege before coming out. Which is why I’m making the comparison.
