Some rumors don’t even have a kernel of truth to them.

Some rumors are simply spread maliciously to damage the reputation of a person or of a demographic.

That the rumor is of something that makes you angry does not absolve you of the duty to fact-check it before spreading it around further. ESPECIALLY rumors on the Internet.
